Stephen Ministry can be found in congregations from more than 160 Christian denominations, across the U.S. and Canada and in 29 other countries. First Church is blessed to call ourselves a “Stephen Ministry congregation.” Our congregation’s Stephen Ministry equips laypeople to provide one-to-one Christian care to people in our congregation and community who are experiencing difficulties in their lives – experiencing grief, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, or some other life crisis. Stephen Ministry is a confidential ministry.  The identity of those receiving care and everything they discuss with a Stephen Minister remain private.

Stephen Ministry training is typically scheduled for the winter/spring of the year and encompasses 50 hours together where each person learns skills to equip themselves for providing one-to- one care.  The group also learns about themselves, explores life situations, and supports each other.
